If it is supposed to be the same then that is great but I see significantly poorer shadow recovery in both detail and noise with your program. I didn't think that any recovery was done in your program, I am saying that there is a ton more noise and less shadow detail when recovering shadows in Lightroom vs. You think after a wedding I want to use two different programs to convert raws? With that amount of work to do that would add a ton of extra time.īrian, is there simply more latitude with the raw file then? I don't use dng usually but I was under the impression that working on a dng was very similar to a raw. I'm not trying to do less work than I am already doing but I am also not trying to do more. John, it is not laziness, it is simply extra work that I don't care to do. without knowing exactly what it will look like. I don't like choosing "medium" from a drop down for sharpness, noise reduction etc. I REALLY want to buy this but I have to test it more because my first experience with it is not good.I need shadow recovery to at least be on par with Lightroom.Īlso I hope that eventually we can get an image preview to see how the settings affect the raw before it is converted. This case was a bald eagle that came by quickly in low light and I had to have a high shutter speed, and the 100-400 is not exactly fast (not complaining, it is a great lens and I don't expect any zoom in this range to be fast). I don't go around shooting high ISO, underexposed images regularly but I do want to know that this can handle it when I need it to. I'm not sure if this is because it is now a dng rather than working with the actual raw in Lightroom or if it is fault of Iridient's conversion. The sharpness of the detail was superior but it was not able to recover as much overall detail. I was really hopeful about this after reading all of the good things about Iridient, and I am still hoping that the issue was on my end so I will try more with it tomorrow, but not only was the noise through the roof raising the Iridient-converted dng, the shadow detail was much lower as well. I tried the smoother mode and it was better but still not good. The shadow recovery was awful and not at all as good as Lightroom's conversion - there was a ton of luminance noise.white dots and artifacts all over the place reminiscent of generations old technology. I wanted to see how it would do with a very demanding, worst case scenario photo. I need to try more with this but I have it a spin tonight on a high ISO image that needed a lot of shadow recovery. The arrival of Iridient's conversion algorithm for Windows users will see its inclusion in a forthcoming comparison of several leading Raw converters for X-Trans cameras.Ĭlick here to read more and to download the public beta 2.0 of Iridient X-Transformer The beta utility is available for free download but will place watermarks on the converted images. Chroma/Luma Noise Reduction (Off, Low, Medium, High) again with the option to cancel Lightroom's default NR.Lens Correction - includes the option to apply the camera's lens corrections, ignore them or write them as 'opcode' tags into the DNG file to be handled by the downstream converter.Sharpening (Off, Low, Medium, High), with the option to over-ride Lightroom Sharpening and the ability to specify the sharpening tag in the DNG file. The 'Smoother' option is less prone to artefacts but without the same level of fine detail. Interpolation process (More Detailed/Smoother), based on the Detail+ and Smooth options in Iridient Developer. The software offers control over the following parameters: The plugin also includes options for organizing and batch-renaming of files and the ability to compress and reduce the bit-depth of processed files, to save space. The software is designed to give files that are optimized for the conversion software you then import into, with the option to add tags to prevent Lightroom from duplicating the sharpening or noise reduction you've chosen to apply with X-Transformer, and options defining the handling of lens corrections. This allows Windows users to access the well-regarded processing look that is popular among Mac-owning X-Trans shooters.Ĭamera support covers all but the very latest X-series models and covers cameras both with X-Trans and Bayer color filter patterns. Iridient X-Transformer is a standalone utility that takes RAF files from Fujifilm cameras and demosaics them before saving them as DNG files. Iridient Digital, maker of the popular Iridient Developer Raw conversion software for Mac, has announced a public Beta of a Fujifilm Raw converter utility for Windows.
